Verify that you have the latest version of iTunes. Launch iTunes, and from the
iTunes menu select "Check for Updates." (On a PC, select "Check
for Update" from the Help menu.
Back up your old iPhone. Using iTunes, back up your
current iPhone to iCloud or to your computer.
Shut down your old iPhone. You will need to do this
so that there are not two phones running with the same phone number
simultaneously.
Plug in your iPhone. You can choose to
activate the phone while tethered to the computer, or you can choose to connect
wirelessly.
- If you choose to set up wirelessly, make sure you have all the information about your network at hand before you begin.
Turn on iPhone 5. Press the on/off button
at the top right of the iPhone. When the phone has started up, follow the Setup
Assistant for signing in. It will step you through the processes necessary to
fully setup your iPhone, including:
- Accepting the terms of service.
- Accessing a Wi-Fi network
- Signing in with, or creating an Apple ID
- Setting up iCloud
- Activating features such as Find My iPhone and Location Services
- Activating the phone with Verizon.
- The Setup Assistant will also guide you in restoring your iCloud or iTunes backup
Activating an iPhone on AT&T
Back up your old iPhone. Using iTunes, back up
your current iPhone to iCloud or to your computer.
Navigate to the AT&T
wireless activation site. It's located at www.wireless.att.com/activation.
Follow the on-screen
prompts. You'll be asked what kind
of account you'll be setting up, your wireless number, and a verification code.
Restart your phone. When you're finished
setting up your AT&T iPhone 5, turn off your phone.
Wait 5 minutes, then turn your phone on.
Your iPhone 5 should be activated
