Open the start menu by clicking
on the start button in the bottom left corner.Since the program we are looking for by default is
not listed in the start button menus, we are going to use the search bar
(vista/win7) or the run button (winxp and older). In the text box, type in
“msconfig.exe” (if windows cannot find this program, you should be able to
search for it on your windows install dvd/cd).
Select
the Startup tab.
·
The startup tab provides you with
the following information about programs that are to be started up with windows
If you are unsure of any on this list, it's best to look them up on the
internet to see what they are.
·
The checkbox on the far left of
each line is to enable or disable individual programs from starting. This will
not remove/delete this entry, it will just disable the action of starting the
program with windows. Remember some keyboards, mice, anti-virus software and
other things you want to have start with windows are also on these lists.
Alternatively,
one location of startup entries is located in a folder. You could navigate in windows
explorer to, c:\USERS\currentuser\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
menu\Programs\Startup.
·
In this folder you can delete or
add shortcuts to programs starting up with windows.
·
The other startup locations that
do not start with a “c:\” are called registry keys (experienced users will know
more about these).
Hit
the apply button before you hit the OK button.
Restart your computer in case you
need to revert one of your changes; it will be fresh in your memory which
software it is you want to boot with windows.
